Sermon Audio – The Gospel in Chairs

This may be my last Freshwind sermon recording, and if it is I am glad to end off this way. I still remember the first time I saw this and how it set fireworks off in my brain!

Unfortunately, the visual effect of the chairs is hard to transfer with an audio recording. If you have trouble following the movement of the chairs, I recommend you view Brad Jersak’s video version, found here.

In Jesus name, I bless you to understand how much bigger and grander and kinder and more beautiful God is than we ever imagined. Much love,

Sermon Audio – For Yours is the Kingdom

This is the last sermon in our series on the Lord’s Prayer, looking at the phrase “For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever, amen.” and following with a discussion of what God’s kingdom is like.

This week didn’t tie off in a nice, neat package. I think we all left with lots rolling around in our brains. Maybe this is one of those things that are uncomfortable but really good for us.

The book I used for my research is “Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes” by Kenneth E. Bailey. You can find it here. I have found it immensely helpful in understanding the Gospels and finding the loving heart of God in them.

Sermon Audio – Lead Us Not Into Temptation

In honour of International Women’s Day, this week we started off sharing stories of women who have inspired us. We continue with a discussion of “Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one” and end up reminding ourselves of the character of our God who loves us and is for us.

Sermon Audio – Forgive us our sins…

This week something very special happened. While Greg was speaking, people interrupted with their own questions and thoughts. Greg ran with it and we had an amazing time of learning together. So this recording includes not only what Greg shared, but also what the rest of our little community shared, with permission of course.

Some helpful links I thought of as I listened are below:

The definition of forgiveness by Brad Jersak that Greg shared.

An article on a four step apology. We use this in our home and it helps a lot, especially when modeled by the parents to the children and to each other. After Greg’s suggestion, I  am mulling over whether to leave off step 4 or change it in some way.

Love to our little gathering and to those joining from a distance.

Sermon Audio – Gender Equality

Here is our first Hot Button topic, where Nicole and Josh Giesbrecht present several different aspects of sexism, feminism and gender equality.

Some helpful links can be found on this post.

Sermon Audio – Our Daily Bread

This is the recording from February 11, where Tracey McKone shared with us on the phrase “Give us this day our daily bread” from the Lord’s Prayer.

Sermon audio – Jan 21

Here’s last Sunday’s message from Nicole, an introduction to “Hot Button” topics that we’ll be looking at once a month.

Jan 14, 2018 – Holy Be Your Name

This morning’s sermon, for your listening pleasure.

Nicole’s note: This recording does not include the discussion that happened after. This is to protect people’s privacy and keep Sunday mornings at Freshwind a safe place, but it does miss out on some of the most beautiful things that were said. My hope is that people who listen will think about the questions at the end and start a beautiful discussion here in the comments too.
